I am delighted to have been invited to contribute to Artobotic's Brexit Art Machine!
Artobotic place repurposed vending machines filled with small brown boxes containing original art at selected venues.
For as little as £5 - £10, people can purchase artworks which are made especially for the project by a wide variety of artists. You simply put your money in the slot to own their art. It's great fun, and just think - you could actually build an impressive art collection on a shoestring with Artobotic! At Cupar Arts Festival recently B acquired a hand-made Wulfgard the Bard (aka Mike Middleton) story-book, and I acquired a Mark Small original painted glass slide. Above, you can see the converted Tampax machine they came from, photographed at a venue in Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh. This machine was given the treatment by artist Vanessa Gibson, painter of song lyrics on furniture. Jake and Dinos Chapman filled boxes with goodies and signed the boxes. Phillip Jupitus contributes witty hand-made collages. Also pictured above are glow in the dark tarot cards by Pulitzer Prize winner Eric Millikin - each machine is stocked with a wide variety of art. In October the Brexit Art Machines will be installed at venues throughout London.

I have been turning over ideas in my mind all week as to what I will contribute. Several weeks ago I saved these two images from one of my sketchbooks, and had left them on my iPad. I had forgotten about them, but came across them unexpectedly during the week, and seeing them with fresh eyes it suddenly struck me they looked like confused flags. Excited! It was thought-provoking and got the creative juices flowing. The power, unity and identity symbolised by flags are values which are changing in the current UK political arena. The last thing a flag should be is confused, so I find a quiet humour in the idea.

There will be no Weekly next Sunday, as I am going to be out for the whole weekend, but in the mean time I shall crack on with some flags, and hopefully have something to share in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for visiting, see you in a fortnight!

As well as the work you see here, I illustrate under the name of Binky McKee (my mother's maiden name was McKee, Binky was every single one of my great grandmother's many cats!)

Candle-light shadows. I set up little 'night theatres' in my bedroom. As darkness falls, I light strategically placed candles and watch the plays begin. A perfect activity for the darkest days of winter.
