A tourist in my own town, I took a different route and came across these vintage playground creatures. They seemed frozen in their innocence. I stopped and took photos.
This week has been all about flowers and pattern making over at Binky McKee, still working hard on setting up a shop on Redbubble. I am absolutely fascinated by pattern-making, but have never learned to do it using the tools in Photoshop until now, and it has been great fun. I became curious to see what my HEW drawings would look like in a repeat pattern, so I mocked up this simple tiled design from a detail of Before There Were Saturdays (2015). I know it's rough, but interesting! I am excited about learning how to do it properly, and the possibilities for making drawings based on pattern. Thanks for visiting, see you next week! The February sun has started swinging around into the house, triggering my early spring habit of going around observing shadows cast through glass. I had a lovely surprise during the week when I received a cheque from the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh - they sold my small drawing of a fig and rainclouds! I hadn’t been able to get any work to them for their On A Small Scale exhibition in November, owing to the house move and my studio being upside down. However, the gallery must have hung work in their keeping on my behalf - and sold this one. A huge thank you to all at the Open Eye! Thanks for visiting, see you next week! |
Welcome to my work journal. I usually post here once a week on Sunday, but there are often 'bonus' posts in between of interesting things like growing carrot tops and avocado pits, the odd piece of work I do as Binky, and news items.
Thanks for stopping by! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

As well as the work you see here, I illustrate under the name of Binky McKee (my mother's maiden name was McKee, Binky was every single one of my great grandmother's many cats!)
