I finished Falling from Trees (that sounds a bit strange!) on Monday. Having completed documentation and scans, today is its big day - off to be framed at Wildgrass Studio. It makes me feel as though I have really achieved something when it gets to this stage. Dave and Gillian Hunt who run the studio are both photographers, and they make it a really relaxed, laid-back experience. The studio is bright and airy with a warm atmosphere, and there is a lot of interesting work by them and other fascinating bits and pieces to look at. All this is very welcome, as I become inexplicably filled with trepidation at the prospect of something which has been so much a part of my life going out into the world on its own. Silly, I know, but after the discussion about how Falling from Trees is to be presented I can't help smoothing it down for the last time. From now on, it will be safely behind glass, only to be moved by experts if it has to be taken out.

As well as the work you see here, I illustrate under the name of Binky McKee (my mother's maiden name was McKee, Binky was every single one of my great grandmother's many cats!)

Candle-light shadows. I set up little 'night theatres' in my bedroom. As darkness falls, I light strategically placed candles and watch the plays begin. A perfect activity for the darkest days of winter.
