CHRISTMAS is on the way and I am making presents. I'm not getting much drawing done but, oh how I love making stuff.
These owls and skulls for some projects I have in mind are made from salt dough. I would normally do ceramic but my kiln is still not working (cash flow) - but I am loving working with salt dough as a substitute.
Salt dough recipe:
1 cup table salt
2 cups plain flour
1 cup water
1 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp Golden Acrylic Medium Heavy Matte Gel
Add more water/flour to get consistency right.
Stores well wrapped in cling film.
I became quite interested in the properties of salt dough, it may be worth investigating larger additions of acrylic medium as it lends transparency to the mix which makes a material reminiscent of porcelain.
These have been stained using B's Damar Varnish mix tinted with oil paint. Fumes nearly blew my head off, I would never again do so many in one sitting.
Welcome to my blog, where I share what I have been doing during the week.
I have at last copied my nom-de-plume Binky McKee blog entries from here to their own blog, having given the illustration website an overhaul. Peace and tranquillity may resume here in the somewhat quieter nature of Heather Eliza's work, while Binky has her own rather more colourful Weekly. Please visit Binky McKee if you would like to visit!
